Scouts build a bug hotel

The Scouts visited Dorset Road Allotments during the February half term to build and install two bug hotels they had designed for the new community garden being built.  Both bug hotels had been designed and part constructed during the weekly sessions using recycled materials as part of their Creative challenge and Craft activity badges.  During the weekly sessions the Scouts learnt about the role bug hotels play in providing habitats for invertebrates, learnt how to design and prototype their design as well as learnt construction skills such as measuring, cutting and joining timber. They then assembled and completed the bug hotels on site, which saw visiting Brownies and Guides also lending a hand.
