About the 19th Bromley Scout Group

The 19th Bromley Scout Group was formed in the early days of Scouting and has always been associated with our sponsors Bromley Methodist Church. We are not sure exactly when the 19th Bromley was formed, but it was probably after the Great War (1914-1918) and before 1924, when it was first mentioned in the Scouting column of the local newspaper. We are looking forward to celebrating our 100th anniversary!

The 19th Bromley have moved around Bromley over the years: we originally met at the Methodist Central Hall at the junction of London Road/Farwig Lane, which was destroyed by bombing during World War II. From the 1960s the 19th met in the new Methodist Church Hall in Holwood Road which was demolished to make way for the Glades. Since 1990 we have met in the current Methodist Church Hall at College Road.

We are proud to help young people in the Bromley area enjoy new adventures, to experience the outdoors, interact with others, gain confidence and have the opportunity to reach their full potential.  Scouts take part in activities as diverse as archery, kayaking, camping, skating, and climbing. As a Scout you can learn survival skills, first aid, cooking, woodwork or how to put on a stage show. There’s something for every young person. It’s a great way to have fun, make friends, get outdoors, express your creativity and experience the wider world.

We have a leadership team, working across three different sections (Beavers, Cubs and Scouts), who voluntarily give up many hours of their free time to help and encourage our young people to develop skills including teamwork, time management, leadership, initiative, planning, communication, self-motivation, cultural awareness and commitment.

The 19th Bromley Scout group is managed by a Group Executive Committee, which meets three times a year. The membership of the committee is made up of all of the sections leaders as well as a Chairman and Treasurer who are non uniformed members of the Group. An Annual General Meeting is held every year where all of the leaders, young people and their parents are invited to attend and take part.

The 19th Bromley Scout Group relies heavily on good parental support in order to help with transport, support activities raise funds to provide equipment such as tents, sports and games equipment.  We aim to be a friendly and helpful group, and actively encourage parental involvement.

If you would like to join us either as a young person or as an adult volunteer, please email leaders@19thbromleyscouts.org.uk
